is understanding the many phrases and words used by Muslims in
nearly every conversation throughout the day. Because Islam is
not just a religion but a way of life, it permeates every aspect
of our living, and especially our language. On this page, we will,

For now we are just posting the most commonly used terms that
non-Muslims or new Muslims are most likely to encounter. |
Alhamdulillah- Thanks and praise be to Allah.
Assalamu Alaykum- Peace Be Upon You
Bismillah- In the Name of Allah.
Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim- In the Name of
Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Beneficient.
Eid- A Muslim Holy Day (holiday)
Eid Mubarak- Happy Eid
Insha'Allah- God Willing
Jannah- Paradise, the Best of Rewards, for the
faithful followers of Allah (SWT)
Jahannum- Hellfire, the punishment that awaits
evildoers and nonbelievers.
Janazah- The Islamic rituals performed for the
deceased.
Muslim- One who submits his/her will to Allah.
Radiy'Allah Aynhu- May Allah Bless him. (A different
pronunciation is used for the pronouns "her" and "them".)(Abbreviated
in writing as "RA" or "R")
Ramadan Karim, Ramadan Mubarak- Two ways of saying
Happy Ramadan
Salalahu Alayhi wa Salaam- Peace and Blessings of Allah
be upon him. (Abbreviated in writing as "SA", "S",
or "SAS". Sometimes abbreviated with "PBUH"
for the English: "Peace be upon him.")
Subhanahu wa Ta'Ala- He is the Most Exalted
without Partners or Equals (Abbreviated in writing as "SWT".)
Subhan'Allah!-Glorified is Allah!
Tawhid-Belief in the Oneness of Allah.
Wa Alaykum Salaam-And Peace Be Upon You As Well
