There are many activities in the Piedmont Triad area that enable
our younger brothers and sisters to strengthen their Islamic Knowledge
and Faith, as well as creating a strong network of friends within
the Ummah. Alhamdulillah our numbers are growing all the time,
as non-Muslims are learning more about Islam and embracing the
Truth like never before.
A recent statistic pointed out that in the city of Greensboro,
Muslims outnumber Methodists! Subhan'Allah! This means that with
such a large Muslim population in our part of the state, there
is no reason why our Muslim teenagers should surround themselves
with non-Muslim friends. It is okay to have non-Muslim friends
of course.... but they probably are not going to remind us to
pray, to avoid flirting with the opposite sex, to steer clear
of smoking and drinking and doing a lot of haram things that are
considered quite normal in this society.
The Qu'ran makes it clear that Muslims should not hate Christians
or Jews, but it also is quite clear in numerous places that
if
we have a choice, we should choose Muslim friends over non-Muslim
friends. (The Glorious Qu'ran: 3:28, 4:139, 4:144, 5:51, 5:57,
5:80, 5:81, 9:23, 11:113, 43:67, 58:14, 60:01)
The Qu'ran also says,
"And the believers, men and women, are protecting friends
one of another; they enjoin the right and forbid the wrong, and
they establish worship and they pay the poor-due, and they obey
Allah and His messenger. As for these, Allah will have mercy on
them. Lo! Allah, is Mighty, Wise." (Surah At-Taubah. 009:71)
REMEMBER THIS---> Because Shaytan has vowed to take as many
of us away from Allah (SWT) as possible, he will try to make your
Muslim brothers and sisters seem unappealing and your non-Muslim
companions will seem infinitely more interesting, or "cool".
Don't be fooled! Pray for Allah (SWT) to guide you and protect
you from Shaytan. Ask Allah (SWT) to help you choose friends that
will keep you guided rightly.
Note to YOUNG MUSLIMS:
It is so important
that you create as many friends from among your fellow Muslims
as possible. Although you may not be surrounded with other Muslims
during the school day, (especially if you go to public schools),
you have the opportunity to befriend other Muslims when you attend
functions at ICG and with other Islamic groups. Your Muslim friends
will help you remember to pray, to steer away from the temptations
of Shaytan, and will not tease you or try to make you feel bad
about the things that you, as a Muslim, are obligated to do and
not to do.
It is vital that you keep these Muslim friends around you like
a wall of protection against Shaytan. He will seek to steer you
away from Islam using whatever means available, and at your age
and in your position here in the US, the easiest way for him to
get you is through non-Muslim friends and through corrupting your
thoughts via unIslamic television programs, video games, etc.
Please take your friends from among Muslims and seek out new opportunities
to make Muslim friends whenever possible, for your own sake.
